DIY Free SEO Tools
These are the tools I use to do my analysis of the sites I want to rank and the competitors I am up against.
In all honestly, this section is probably not earth shattering, but some of the ways I use the tools may be a little bit different than they say they should be used.
Optimize WordPress for SEO, Speed and User Experience
I work a lot on WordPress, and these are the tools I use. If you use another platform, you still want to follow the concepts for your platform.
- 73% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that was too slow to load.
- 51% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that crashed, froze, or received an error.
- 38% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that wasn’t available.
- 47% of consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less.
- 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.
- A 1 second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions.
- If an e-commerce site is making $100,000 per day, a 1 second page delay could potentially cost you $2.5 million in lost sales every year.
In testing and experience, gains of 20% or more in traffic are possible, just by optimizing for page load. With one major customer, cutting the page load time from ~8 to ~5.5s added over 2 million Unique Visitors.
Natural Anchor Text Distribution
I believe one of the most common (and extremely harmful) SEO mistakes many small businesses and site owners make is ignoring what most sites have as the natural anchor text distribution formula. From my own experience, as well as SEOmoz’s research, people that follow the anchor text distribution formula (shown below) successfully get into the Top 10 on Google and were progressing in the SERPs even after the Penguin update. Those that ignored this rule failed to get high rankings. When I deal with small companies that have hired a cheap SEO firm, that firm has usually built a lot of backlinks with the exact same anchor text.
Below I will show you 6 reports – 3 natural Anchor text distributions and 3 non-natural Anchor text distributions.

Link Building For Profit
DIY SEO Link building is the foundation that the Google Search algorithm is based on. While other website elements have become very important – like mobile, website speed and onpage factors – links are the very foundation of all of the Google ranking factors.
Good links can overcome lousy content and a slightly slower site.
With all things being equal, the site with the *best* links win.
In this guide, I am going to give you the actual industry articles about “White Hat” (meaning the link building techniques that do not break Google’s Terms & Conditions).
They all work, they are good, and you should read them.
Then I will give you some shortcuts I use. And I will give you one way that is perceived as risky, but works very well. This is worth the price of admission alone, and I use it on every single site I have that makes money.
